Chikankari, introduced by Mughal Empress Nur Jahan in the 16th century, is a delicate embroidery craft from Lucknow. Traditionally done on fine muslin, Chikankari sarees feature intricate floral motifs created with over 40 stitching techniques. These sarees, originally worn by Mughal royalty, continue to symbolize elegance and finesse, representing North India’s rich artisanal heritage.
